These days, it is almost impossible to find a job without a college degree. This is generally true whether you are looking for work at a Fortune 500 company or looking for work as a cashier at a grocery store. Therefore, parents need to do whatever it takes to convince their children that going to college is going to be worth the investment of time and money.

A college education may literally pay off for those who choose to get their degree. On average, those who go to college can make tens of thousands of dollars more over their careers compared to those who only graduated from high school. This is often because high school graduates only have access to entry-level positions while college graduates are considered for professional jobs.
College Teaches You about Life
College is the perfect transition from high school to being a true adult. For the first time in your life, you are exposed to thoughts and ideas that conflict with your own. Unlike a public high school, colleges are generally not bound by state laws or other regulations when it comes to what they teach or how they teach it. Outside of the classroom, you learn what it is like to live by yourself and how to manage your time and money without assistance from anyone else. These are all points that parents should make when talking up the value of going to college.
Online Courses Make Going to School Easier
Some kids feel like it would be better to save up money before going to school. While that may not be a bad idea, the likelihood of enrolling in college decreases after a student has been out of high school for a year or more. Taking criminology courses online can be a great way to help your child get started with his or her education without spending too much money. Alternatively, it may be a good idea to have your child enroll part-time in a community college.
If you have children, it is important that you set them up for success in life. Helping them get a college degree is one way to increase the odds that they do well as an adult. While there may be an upfront cost to getting an advanced education, it can offer an incredible return on that money in the long run.
